Jaguar to launch Hybrid models

Photo-of-the-hybrid-model-from-Jaguar[1]Jaguar will launch its own Hybrid vehicles according to its parent company Jaguar Land Rover. The company is developing battery assisted hybrid versions for both brands but it is putting Land Rovers first because of the fuel thirsty image that heavy 4×4’s have. Hybrid Jaguars are set to include the XF and XJ, but are likely to be on the market by 2013-2014 using a similar eight speed ZF hybrid transmission to petrol- electric BMWs.

The first working prototypes feature a 3.0litre v6 turbo diesel mated with a 35kw electric motor, which will be packed into the standard non-assisted eight speed gearbox. It is expected to be rolled out across the XJ, XF, XK Jaguars and the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. The Hybrid Transmission can be fitted to any of Jaguar Land Rovers Transitional drive vehicles but rules out the transverse Land Rover Freelander and X-type Jaguar.

Jaguar are also researching Range-Extending Hybrids (This uses a combustion engine to purely charge an electric vehicle), which Jaguar will release after production of a Hybrid range.

Release dates to be announced

Jaguar C-X16 Hybrid

The C-X16 concept made its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 376hp. The C-X16 comes with an electric motor that’s integrated into the eight speed gearbox.

The electric motor gives out an additional 92hp at the push of a button, giving Hybrid on demand. Jaguar says that this allows the C-X16 to excel from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 186mph. The Jaguar Hybrid emits 165g CO2 per km and hits up to 50mph in electric-only mode. The electric power comes via a 1.6-KWH Lithium-ion battery mounted behind the rear seats.
